Grayshott Spa, Surrey

January 20, 2010
By olivia

I’ve been to so many places that pretend to be spas.  Grayshott Spa in Surrey is the real deal.

There is a chill out area where you help yourself to limitless tea and coffee.  As well as the spa proper’s treatment rooms, there is a steam room, two steam pods and plunge pool.  Changing rooms, lockers, fresh towels and hairdryers are freely available.  There is also a well-equipped gym, separate work out area for classes and hydrotherapy area for specialist treatment.  Attached to the swimming pool is a Jacuzzi.  A hairdresser is available (not Sundays) and normal beauty treatments, such as manicures may also be had.

If you wish to repair to the lounge, bar or even eat lunch, it is perfectly acceptable to do this in your gown.

I was on a two day de-stress package, with three treatments included.  My partner changed his treatments, which they are happy to do with a price adjustment if necessary.

De-stress aromatherapy body massage.  My skilled operator first let me choose the fragrance and then gave me a thorough massage that was really relaxing.  It included shoulders and head, allowing those knots of tension to melt away.  The 55 minutes flew by and I did feel good afterwards.

Aroma facial massage.  In the afternoon, the same operator worked on my face and head.  Again I chose the scent she was going to work with.  The oils did not affect my sensitive skin.  25 minutes of bliss.

Body wrap.  This time, my skin was exfoliated and then I took a quick shower.  I was oiled with frankincense, camomile and rosemary and wrapped in what appeared to be cling film, arms to my side.  I should have then had a head massage, but since I had received two head treatments, I asked my therapist if she would massage my feet instead, which she was happy to do.  I was encouraged not to swim or shower for two hours to let the oils do their work.  I would suggest keeping your gown on during this time if you can, or you might stain your clothes.  My skin felt soft and I felt relaxed.  It was 55 minutes well spent.

If you want to test the water, so to speak, before committing to a weekend, there is a Serene Sunday offer.  From 1pm to 6pm you have access to all amenities, a locker, buffet lunch and one treatment.  See website for more details.

Finally, I loved the shop, filled with casual clothes by unusual designers that were hard to resist (I failed).  It’s so nice to be able to try things on with only a gown to remove.  The assistant told me that swimsuits are sold year-round and are their best seller.
