Learn to play golf at Donnafugata, Sicily

Golf is a sport I had dismissed as not for me.  But actually it’s an ideal activity for keeping fit and especially good for those, like me who know they will never be a gym bunny, a jogger or a regular swimmer.

Learning to play in a swanky five star resort and in the warmth of a Sicilian spring or late autumn, leaving the dreary English weather behind, is an added bonus and certainly changed my mind about golf.

The NH Hotel Donnafugata Golf Resort and Spa has two professional 18-hole golf courses – the South Links and the North Parkland.  The attached Golf Academy has an excellent professional and bilingual golf tutor – Gary Hughes and lessons are available for beginners or improvers.

Beginners learn how to hold the club properly, how to swing the body when driving, how to putt and how to tackle the sand bunker.  Over a period of just three days and with a few hours of lessons, you may be good enough to try playing a round.   The electric buggies certainly make it even more fun.

When you have finished, as well as the nineteenth hole to enjoy, there is the indulgent spa in which to rest your aching muscles.  NH Hotel Donnafugata Golf Resort and Spa is just over an hour’s drive from Catania airport.  BA flies from Gatwick.  Special three day golf taster breaks are available, including room breakfast, dinner, golf and spa from €660 per person for two sharing.
