As your car swings off the busy Old Airport Road and up to The Leela Palace, Bangalore – towering like a pink fairy tale castle above the chaos that sits below – you feel as if you are entering a different world. An ant in a house of giants, the tall marble pillars dwarf you. Huge wooden doors lead into the reception area, scented with the hundreds of flowers that comprise the vast glass displays. With two excellent restaurants, an award-winning spa and recommended Library bar, the Leela is well worth seeking out, despite the inconvenient distance from the airport.
Accommodation ranges from luxury doubles through to the Royal Club floor where all rooms overlook the gardens, and it has its own restaurant, cigar room, snooker room and champagne room. If that is not grand enough, you can ensconce yourself in the Turret suite or even the Royal suite, the size of a small bungalow, with room to entertain eight guests, if that is your want.
Even if you don’t wish to stay it’s worth a special visit, if only to see what you are missing.
